Are Antioxidants Lifesavers?

In the past decade, the importance of antioxidants has increased as scientists have discovered a link between degenerative diseases and the presence of free radicals in our bodies. Antioxidants can slow down this process.

It's quite natural that the common process of oxidation also takes place in our bodies. And it leads to aging, because dangerous free radicals are created during this oxidation. Antioxidants can effectively work against free radicals, neutralizing them before they can do harm to our cells and therefore keeping the body young and healthy.

Free radicals are highly reactive. They can react with and damage other molecules in our bodies. When free radicals start attacking the body's own cells, we age. Antioxidants neutralize these harmful radicals.

The occurrence of wrinkles, crow's feet at the corners of your eyes and laugh lines around your mouth is due to the normal aging process. However, it is important to understand what causes aging and also what we can do to slow the process of aging. We all want to look and feel young.

Great sources of antioxidants are common vitamins such as Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and selenium. They can be nutrients (vitamins and minerals) as well as enzymes (proteins in your body that assist in chemical reactions). By fighting degenerative diseases, antioxidants can help us live longer and healthier lives.

Unfortunately antioxidants can not completely remove free radicals from our bodies. However, they do work to hold back or minimize the damage caused. On top of that, antioxidants hinder the process of oxidation by neutralizing free radicals. Through neutralization, they themselves become oxidized. That's why our bodies are always in need of a steady supply of antioxidants. It is therefore recommended that you constantly eat fruits and vegetables that can supply your body with antioxidants.

Antioxidants are very essential for our bodies. They slow the process of aging and also help our bodies to fight against degenerative diseases.
